How to shop smart in NY

I come to NY once a month, but after all the fashion shows, cab rides and cups of coffee-to-go, right now, I feel like a proper New Yorker. As such, here are my tips for bagging brilliant New York buys:
* Opt for American; if it was made here, it's going to be cheaper, so brands like GAP, Abercrombie & Fitch and American Apparel generally are. Urban Outfitters is pretty much the same in dollars as it is in pounds, meaning those cute vintage-style tees are $28 not £28!
* Hit the less posh but uber-trendy Lower East Side for amazing vintage stores and cool boutiques - great streets in the area include Rivington (amazing vintage store opposite the Rivington Hotel and the best sweet store you'll ever find!), Essex and Lafayette. Hit Prince Street for an onslaught of all your fave labels.
* Greenwich is not only home to Carrie Bradshaw (I had my picture taken on her famous stoop on Perry St) but it is also home to Bleeker Street and the Marc by Marc Jacobs trifector - the store, the bags and accessories store
and the discount store! Don't miss brilliant boutique Intermix, which is home to many of our favourite designer brands including Missoni, Stella McCartney and lesser known American labels like Sea NY, Mayle and C&C California.
* Fifth Avenue is everything you'd expect. Fendi, Versace and Gucci but head into Bergdoff Goodman on the corner of 58th and you could find sale Louboutins for just £150!
* Finally, take a trip down to the Financial District and the Century 21 store. The clothing may be last season, but at these prices you won't be bothered, plus you're sure to find huge savings on many designer brands. Happy shopping!

Trends to watch

All in One

All-in-ones have grown up this season. Forget velour, this year it’s all about flirting with full-length one pieces in thick silk, loose denim or comfy jersey. Cropped styles are bright and punchy with drawstring detail, balloon-shaped shorts and quirky patterns.

Belt in if shapless and add to the ‘70s throwback. High street versions are aplenty, visit Topshop or H&M for block colour styles in jersey or cotton.
